I Was Looking for Online Music Collaboration Websites…

So, I was recently reading some advice by music producers, and one thing that came up several times was how great it can be to collaborate. I’ve not done much collaboration in the past, but I thought maybe I could give it a go, so I went looking for websites which facilitate musical collaboration, and I found blend.io. Take a look at the video below which explains how it works:

In that video, he was using Ableton Live, whereas I will be using Propellerhead Reason 8. It’s okay, though, people use all different music software on there, and you can filter them down to just the one you use.

I’ve just signed up with it myself but have not got round to actually collaborating with anyone yet. But I have synchronised it with my DropBox account. Now I can look through any current projects on there and see if there are any I want to add to. Then I can download the Reason files and start playing around with them.

But there is another excellent way this could really help me. I often come up with many new ideas myself, then I struggle to finish them. I’m sure this must be a common issue for many creative people. I have so many “in progress” ideas on my computer that I’ve never done anything with. I could just upload them all to blend.io and see if anyone does anything with them.

But also, if I am ever stuck for ideas or inspiration for starting a new musical project, I can just browse through blend.io until I find something that sparks a new idea in me. Then I can download their project and start adding to it. Great! It’s a win-win situation.

I might start documenting my progress on here by showing musical ideas as they develop.

What do you think? Why not let me know in the comments section below.

All the best,
Marcus.

I had no idea you could collaborate on online music sites, that’s really cool.
And it’s great that if you don’t have any inspiration at the moment you can take a look on their website and see something that would help you.
I’m a fan of music, so yes, this sounds really tempting 🙂

Yes, that’s the thing, Ashley, it could be a great way to overcome that creative block that all creative people sometimes get. It could also offer fresh perspectives, because when you are creating things on your own it can be very easy to get stuck in your own patterns and ways of doing things.

Great idea Marcus – I had no idea there were sites like that out there! It’s great you can use any software you like to collaborate. It sounds like it’s very inspiring and I totally think you should post your progress, we’d love to see it! Thanks for this article.

So far I’ve not had anyone do anything to the music I have uploaded, but to be fair I have only uploaded two. One was a small idea that I wanted people to add to, and the other was a completed piece of music that I wanted people to remix. I guess there must be so much on there that people have a lot to choose from.
